Rochor+

Contrast and difference are the norm in the Rochor+ area of Singapore. Changes in building height, setback, typology, function, ownership, or materiality occur at very closely spaced intervals (5-10m).

In order to promote this high-contrast development, five simple rules have been created for Rochor’s infill sites. Rather than applying specific formal/aesthetic rules to individual buildings, these rules operate as ratios at the intermediate scale of the block.

By focusing on the block as a single 6-sided entity, these rules preserve Rochor’s overall character while allowing for a high degree of freedom at the scale of the individual building.
